As promised, here are some samples from the mini we made for TCAF 07. First is a story I scripted up about meeting Chester Brown that provides sort of an overview of our trip, followed by a few cartoons Alex did.

We got back from TCAF last night and it was even more awesome than the last one. We met lots of people, got alot of comics and ate like slobs.
Highlights for me include:
-Meeting up with my friend Helen who left to pursue her education in Toronto
-Meeting the awesome David Yoder, who probably has the most consistently entertaining journal comics I've ever read.
-Finally getting a copy of Project: Superior from Jamie Tanner
-Meeting Drew Weing in person
-Getting a sketch from James Jean
-Having the TCAF 05 mini ready in time for the festival in question. I'll be posting more about this and excerpts of it later.

While there are several known types of gino, two are repsresented here: the "Grease" gino and the more common, hick gino. Generaly accepted as the worst kind of gino.

After a long time doing nothing with the blog, seems we've both decided to add what we can. This is the beginnings of a story that's going to be in my next mini, due out next week or so.

Quiet Racisms

This is a personal mini I'm currently working on. I'll have it done by the end of the semester, hopefully. It's essentially an idea I had cooked up last summer about the way we view race and culture here in Canada.
"Quiet Racisms" refers to an age where violent prejudice and segregation has been replaced with a kind of hidden loathing. The idea of political correctness has relegated us to a kind of forced co-habitation where people seem to swallow or ignore their racial or cultural prejudices in order to properly function in society. What interests me with Quiet Racisms, are those moments we slip up and reveal these little bigotries.

The stories arn't necessarily there to condemn or condone such behaviours. They are natural, and everyone (I mean everyone) does it once in a while. The idea here is to recognize these little weaknesses, laugh about them, take time to consider them rather then pretend they don't exist. It will be a series of undetermined length.

Here's a quick peak, anyway. Not much, but I'm pencilling the first installment.

New developments

As you can see from the negligence that has been exhibited here, school is really grabbing our attention. I've been recently rethinking the Fish Head Annie Story and, while I like it, it's not really terribly exciting. Fun to draw, yes, but not really something I feel is really deserving of a spot on the next issue.
Instead, I'm going to draw up one of JR's stories. I've even done sketches! SKETCHES!

The holidays are taking their toll on my drawing schedule. I havn't drawn for a good couple of days! I've used my vacation to mostly relax.

I'm getting back to work in he New Year however. I just need to fix myself up a work schedule.

Issue 6 is going to feature a new Fish Head Annie story. It's more of a re-launch really, since I've better fleshed out the character and feel like I've finally got something with real story-telling potential.

So issue 6 is going well. I'd like to take this oppertunity to show you guys a little something of what one of our featured artists will have for the next issue. Today we have Dietrich Rosteck!

I met Dietrich at Babylons during Mod Club. He was friends with previous Sex and Robots dynamo Pascal Arpin, who had done the Abraham story in issue 5.

He had his sketchbook with him, and needless to say, his stuff was friggin' awesome.

My semester is almost over, so I'll finally have enought time to work on my story, which is a re-launch of a character I used in the past, not to mention the cover and book design... So with school ending for the holiday season, I'm all about the book. I'm going to try and post some page samples of contributors, and an early design of the cover this week. Updates soon!
